The Blue Carbon Policy Working Group met in July 2011 at Conservation International’s Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia USA. This first meeting established the objectives of the Blue Carbon Initiative and the Policy Working Group, and produced an outline for the Blue Carbon Policy Framework. In addition, the Working Group produced and submitted content to the UNFCCC Research dialogue. The meetings also identified necessary steps to include blue carbon in relevant policy conventions and mechanisms, such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Destruction (REDD+).
