Blue Solutions Initiative Highlights Blue Carbon
The Blue Solutions Initiative’s goal is to find inspiring solutions that help overcome challenges to sustainable development. This platform currently houses solutions from the marine and coastal realm related to protected areas and is envisioned to include solutions from other topics in the future.
The Blue Solutions Initiative is being implemented in partnership by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), GRID-Arendal, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) through its International Climate Initiative (ICI).
Two solutions proposed by Blue Carbon Initiative Scientific Working Group Members, Dr. Miguel Cifuentes and Dr. Marco Quesada, were selected to be featured on the Blue Solutions Platform.
Securing Livelihoods through Mangrove Conservation and Restoration
This solution addresses mangrove loss and degradation in Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica for artisanal fishers, coastal communities, and national policy makers.
